“This is a story about mannequins.
Always cool and poised in store windows and afloat of all the latest trends.
But even mannequins have to rest once in a while. We eat snacks and enjoy our time off … and even put on some weight after the holidays.”
As an installation/performance piece for a prominent department store in the heart of Tokyo during the New Year holidays, the focus of this project became mannequins, familiar figures in department stores who, although static, work more than ever during the New Year holidays and sales to promote consumption. This installation and performance piece illustrates the mannequins’ New Years holiday using snack bags, another symbol of consumption, to provide a new visual experience of New Years in a department store.
